If Christ did away with the law then…..?

I just watched a great short teaching that I am going to recap in this blog. Hope you all take the time to read and answer these questions for yourself!

If Christ did away with the law then why did He say He didn’t?

Matthew 5:17-18 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

If Christ did away with the law then why is it taught in the Millennial Kingdom?

Isaiah 2:3 “And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Micah 4:2 “Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

If Christ did away with the law then why is it prophesied to be in our heart?

Jeremiah 31:33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD,"I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

If Christ did away with the law then why was the law given the same name as Christ? Did Christ do away with Himself?

Psalms 119:142 “Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth.

If Christ did away with the law then why are we to establish it?

Romans 3:31 “Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.

If Christ did away with the law then why does Paul declare it holy, righteous, good and spiritual?

Romans 7:12 “So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

Romans 7:14 “For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold  into bondage to sin.

If Christ did away with the law then why does James call it perfect and the law of liberty?

James 1:25 “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

James 2:12 “So speak and so act as those who are to be judged byte law of liberty.

If Christ did away with the law then why did Paul delight in God’s law?

Romans 7:22 “For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the
inner man,

If Christ did away with the law then why does 1 John say those who break it sin?

1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

If Christ did away with the law then why does 1 John say those who love God obey His commandments, the laws?

2 John 1:6 “And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

If Christ did away with the law then wouldn’t He be breaking the law?

Deuteronomy 12:32 “Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.

We need to re-examine our thinking. Jesus came to die for our breaking of the law. This does not negate the law; it negates our punishment under the law. If we truly love God we will desire to keep His commandments which are found in the law. God does not change what the law is; He only places it in our heart. It is the same righteous standard of living that always existed, it is the very essence of God and the very being of Jesus who was the Word (or the law) made flesh!

Shalom and keep testing everything you are taught to Scripture in prayer!
